Held at ThirstyBear Brewing Company, our Annual SEMICON West Luncheon features company and industry presentations related to Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), as well as great food and drinks! This year will feature talks from Dr. Bongsub Lee, Senior Manager, Metrology and Characterization at Xperi Corporation, and Leslie E. Thompson, Manager of Materials Characterization and Analysis at IBM Research-Almaden.

Characterizing Nanoscale Topography for Direct Bond Interconnect

Xperi Corporation

 

Dr. Bongsub Lee received his PhD in materials science and engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, after getting his bachelor and master at Seoul National University in Korea. He is currently a senior manager of metrology and characterization at Xperi Corporation. His current interest is 3D-IC technology based on direct bonding of device wafers and die. Before joining Xperi, he worked on physical understanding of phase change materials for non-volatile memories. He has more than 35 publications, including a first-authored paper in Science.

Leslie E. ThompsonLeslie E. Thompson
IBM Research – Almaden

 

Leslie E. Thompson is Manager of Materials Characterization and Analysis at IBM Research-Almaden in San Jose, CA. She has extensive experience in metrology techniques for materials science, including Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Focused Ion Beam (FIB), X-ray Photoemission Spectroscopy (XPS), and sample preparation. Leslie’s areas of current and past research include quantum computing hardware, MRAM, Li-air battery materials, sensors, nanoporous materials, phase change memory, hard disk media, and nanophotonics. Leslie has co-authored over 40 publications and holds 2 patents.
